Ministries » General Items » Stewardship Our philosophy at the Church of St. Mary is that stewardship is a way of life; all that we have and all that we are is a gift from God. Stewardship is our way of thanking God for all His blessings by returning a portion of the time, talent and treasure that has been allotted to us. Our primary way of exercising stewardship is through the Sunday collection. We strive for only one Sunday collection to meet the needs of St. Mary's Church. This means the primary way in which we support all of the ministries in our parish is through the Sunday collection. We invite you to make tithing a long-term goal in your family's financial sharing. This means giving back ten percent of what God has given to you. Believing that God calls us to be stewards of all creation, we ask that you share half of your tithing with the Church of St. Mary and the other half with other charities that serve those who are in need. The Church of St. Mary has a long history of tithing its income to help those who are in need, locally, nationally and globally. Ten percent of the income we receive in our Sunday collection is given each year to organizations, institutions, and individuals who are in need of help. In addition our tithing enables us to support our diocesan mission in Guatemala and to offer vouchers for gas, food and lodging to those who come to our door. We have been blessed abundantly by God each year because of our commitment to tithing. Being a larger parish with a larger budget, we have learned that the only way we can plan to provide for our ministries is to ask each of you to make a pledge each year. The pledge card helps us to plan our budget and can help you plan yours. By committing to share a specific amount each week you help us to manage the parishes fiscal needs in a consistent and orderly way. We invite members to fill out this pledge card in the fall of each year. We can also arrange for automatic withdrawals from your checking or savings account. In the spring we celebrate a ministry fair by sharing with our members the various ministries that we have at St. Mary's Church. Members are then invited to share their time and talent by signing up to volunteer in one or more of the ministries we offer. The Church of St. Mary has an established stewardship committee which meets at least twice a year to plan the stewardship drives in the fall and spring. Each of us should give what we decided in our heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 |
