Faith Formation
St. Mary’s provides age appropriate faith formation materials
and classes for all youth beginning at age 4 through 12th grade.
We strive to bring the parents into this process so, again, the family learns together.
Our Faith Formation classes are scheduled as follows:
Sunday School - students age 4 - 2nd grade from 9:15-10-15 a.m.
Wednesday School - students in grades 3-6 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday School - students in grades 7-12 from 7-8 p.m.
- Preschool (age four): Children learn that God created everything and everything is special because of God’s love for us.
- Kindergarten: Children learn to appreciate God’s beautiful gifts to us in Creation.
- First Grade: Children learn about our church community, the Trinity and the work of the Holy Spirit through the Church.
- Second Grade: Preparation for the reception of First Reconciliation and First Communion.
- Third Grade: A closer look at the Catholic Church, who we are and what we do.
- Fourth Grade: A study of the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes.
- Fifth Grade: A study of the seven sacraments.
- Sixth Grade: A study of the Old Testament.
- Seventh Grade: “Celebrating Church” – A study of Scripture, Prayer and the Tradition of the Church.
- Eighth Grade: “Following Jesus” – A study of the four Gospels and the Apostle Paul.
- Ninth Grade: “Celebrating the Liturgy and Beyond the Written Word (Art)” – A study of the Lectionary and how we can learn our faith through art.
- Tenth and Eleventh Grades: Confirmation Preparation using a ‘Growing in Faith’ process.
- Grade Twelve: Open discussion format about how Scripture and Church influences our everyday life. During this year, the seniors are honored at a Senior Dinner and have the opportunity to apply for post high school scholarships. A Baccalaureate Mass is offered in May.

A Faith Formation Handbook is provided to families each year which includes information relevant to the Faith Formation year.
