The Order of the Daughters of Isabella is a charitable organization
of Catholic women founded on the principle of its motto:
UNITY, FRIENDSHIP AND CHARITY.
The organization comes together as a sisterhood to uphold the teachings
of the Catholic Church by bringing spiritual benefits to members and by
contributing to the common good of humanity.
D of I is one of the largest Catholic women's organization with
membership from the United States and Canada. There is an active
State of Minnesota Circle and 21 local circles throughout the state.
Ave Maria Circle, #593, is active at St. Mary's and the community.
Meetings occur once a month on Monday evenings, at 7:00 p.m. in the
Galleryat the Church of St. Mary. The June meeting includes Mass and
a potluck picnicfor members, spouses and friends. The D of I does not
meet in July and August.
Every First Saturday of the month there is an 8:30 a.m. Mass for
Peace followed by the reciting of the rosary. Following the Mass
there is a breakfast in the Parish Hall for members and non members
in attendance.
Two bake sales are held during the year to raise funds for various
charitable organizations;
A $500 scholarship is given each year to a graduating senior
from St. Mary's; bibles are given to sixth graders in the Faith Formation
classes; and a quilting group meets on Wednesday mornings in the
Parish Hall. Thousands of quilts have been made and given away to
local groups helping the homeless, youth homes, and group homes and
individuals who may be in need.
Non-members are invited to attend the monthly meetings. There are
many spiritual benefits for members. A Mass is offered for deceased members.
A rosary is also offered the evening before a funeral of a member,
or a member's immediate family. A meal is also furnished to families.
Vocations are continually prayed for; and each month fifteen members
are asked to say a decade of rosary to form a perpetual rosary.
