The program is a series of presentations/dialogues accompanied by videos and facilitated by couples in the parish that is designed to:

  • Prepare parents for the baptism of a child(ren).
  • Bring parents into a deeper relationship with their God.
  • Give parents an opportunity to bond with other parents in our faith community.
  • Prepare parents for their responsibility of raising their child in the Christian faith of the Roman Catholic Church.

The three week infant baptism preparation program includes the following:

Week 1:
“The Sacrament of Parenthood”
All loving relationships are revelations of God’s love. Parents become the most immediate and tangible manifestation of God’s love for their children. This session offers insight and inspiration into God as a loving compassionate God who is inviting parents to share God’s life and love in concrete ways as a family.

Week 2:
“Faith Journey”
Parents reflect on their personal faith journey and the commitment they are making for their child. The theology and history of Baptism is connected to the journey of the child to be baptized.

Week 3:
“By Water and the Spirit”
The Symbols and Rite of Baptism are explored revealing the implications for the newly baptized, the family, and the whole faith community.

WHEN?
Baptism preparation classes are held on three consecutive Thursday evenings at 7:00 during the months of May, August, September, January, and March.  The three classes must be attended prior to Baptism.  Godparents are encouraged to attend the classes if they are living in the vicinity.   Baptism is usually celebrated during the parish Eucharistic Liturgy the third weekend of each month.
